At least thirty-two passengers died and more than sixty were injured after after an express train derailed and collided with another passenger train coming from the opposite direction near the city of Daharki, in Ghotki District of Pakistan’s southeast Sindh province on Monday.

The Sir Syed Express collided with the Millat Express between Raiti and Obaro Railway stations and fourteen boggies derailed, according to Railways officials.

According to Police, four boggies of Millat Express completely destroyed in the accident and the death toll is feared to rise. Meanwhile, Relief and rescue efforts are underway at the train’s accident site near Ghotki.

The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) has said that the Army and Rangers troops have reached incident site and carrying out relief and rescue operation. And the military doctors and paramedics along with ambulances also reached at incident site.

The President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi has expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the train accident and he prayed for the departed souls.

The Federal Minister for Railways, Azam Khan Swati has taken notice of the passenger trains’ accident and ordered an inquiry into it.

The Railways spokesperson has said that the preliminary investigation will be completed within twenty-four hours. He confirmed the death of thirty-two passengers in the incident.
