Arshad Nadeem – the leading medal hopeful of Pakistan – is set to compete in the javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics 2024 today (Tuesday, August 6).

According to the media reports, the Paris Olympics 2024 organizers confirmed that Arshad Nadeem, who is slated to throw fifth, will compete in Group B alongside gold medallist Neeraj Chopra of India; other throwers in Group B include World No. 5 Edis Matusevicius, World No. 6 Anderson Peters, and Germany’s Max Dehning, who has thrown over 90 meters this year. The Paris Olympics 2024 organizers have confirmed the groupings.

It is pertinent to mention here that the athletes must throw 84 meters or more to guarantee their spot in the final round, where twelve athletes will compete for the medal. If twelve athletes are unable to reach the 84-meter mark, the top 12 throwers will advance to the medal round.

Pakistan sent a total of seven athletes and six of them have been out of the games. The 27-year-old Pakistan’s javelin thrower is country’s best and final chance to win an Olympic medal. Recall that Nadeem took home a silver medal at the World Championship the previous year. With a tremendous throw that stretched a distance of 90.18 meters, he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022, making history as the first Pakistani athlete to win the title since 1962.
