Blast outside Kabul airport, casualties unclear: Pentagon

An explosion went off outside the airport of the Kabul on Thursday, the US Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby has said, adding that it was unclear if there were casualties.

The US Pentagon Press Secretary has revealed the news in a statement on his Twitter account and said his office would provide additional details when they are available.

According to media reports, thousands of people have flocked outside Kabul’s airport as they try to flee the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. Western nations had warned of a possible attack there in the waning days of a massive airlift.

The defence ministry of United Kingdom has said that it was working urgently to establish what had happened at the airport following the reports of an explosion.

“Our primary concern remains the safety of our personnel, British citizens and the citizens of Afghanistan. We are in close contact with our US and other NATO allies at an operational level on the immediate response to this incident,” the British Defence Ministry added.
