Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan breath his last at 85

The renowned nuclear scientist of Pakistan, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has breathed his last in Islamabad on Sunday morning.

According to media reports, he was admitted at a local hospital where his health deteriorated early this morning and he passed away at the age of 85.

Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan played an important role in making Pakistan a nuclear power. He joined his nation’s clandestine efforts to develop nuclear power after learning of India’s nuclear test in 1974.

The Pakistani nuclear scientist founded the Khan Research Laboratories in 1976 and was both its chief scientist and director for many years. He was awarded with Nishan-i-Imtiaz for his services to the country.

The funeral prayers of Dr Khan, led by Prof Dr Ahmed Al Ghazali, were held at the Faisal Mosque at 3:30pm.
