Electricity capacity of Tarbela Power House to jump to 6418 MW in 2025

The spokesman of the WAPDA said that the total electricity generation capacity of Tarbela Power House will reach 6,418 megawatts from the existing 4,888 MW after the commissioning of the Tarbela 5th Extension Project in 2025.

According to the media reports, the WAPDA spokesman made these remarks while talking to the APP today (Monday, May 29)/ He said that the project would provide environment-friendly and low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid.

The spokesman further stated that WAPDA is constructing the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project on Tunnel No 5 of Tarbela Power House with the financial assistance of the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

According to Wikipedia, “Tarbela Dam is an earth-filled dam along the Indus River in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Located mainly in the Swabi district of the province, the dam is about 30 km (20 mi) from the city of Swabi, 105 km (65 mi) northwest of Islamabad, and 125 km (80 mi) east of Peshawar. It is the largest earth-filled dam in the world. The dam is 143 meters (470 ft) high above the riverbed and its reservoir, Tarbela Lake, has a surface area of approximately 250 square kilometers (97 sq mi).”
