First CM of Balochistan and BNP founder Sardar Ataullah Mengal passes away

The founder of Balochistan National Party (BNP), Sardar Ataullah Mengal has passed away at the age of 93 in Karachi on Thursday.

According to media reports, the news has been confirmed by his family and the BNP leader Sanaullah Baloch. The family said that the Veteran politician was ill and had been hospitalised at a private hospital in Karachi for the last one week.

The reports further stated that the body of Sardar Ataullah Mengal will be transported from Karachi at 5am tomorrow to his home town of Wadh, in district Khuzdar, where his funeral will be held at 3pm.

The BNP has announced a 10-day mourning period and in this time, the party flag will remain at half mast.

It is to be mentioned here that Ataullah Mengal was born in 1929 in Lasbela and was the first chief minister of Balochistan. He was declared the chief (sardar) of the Mengal tribe in 1954.
