FM presents constitutional amendment bill for establishment of South Punjab Province

The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has presented a constitutional amendment bill to Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser for establishment of South Punjab Province.

According to details, the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has directed to make the bill part of the agenda of the house on Monday on the request of Foreign Minister. The Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri was also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the establishment of South Punjab province is part of election manifesto of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He said he has presented the constitutional amendment bill to NA speaker on the directions of PM Imran Khan. Today we have fulfilled yet another promise made with the people of South Punjab, he said.

While talking to media persons outside, FM Qureshi asked the opposition parties including Peoples Party and Muslim League-Nawaz to support the constitutional amendment bill, envisaging establishment of South Punjab province. He said this is the longstanding demand of the local people and it will further strengthen the federation.

“Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf is the first government which has made serious efforts for the establishment of South Punjab province,” he said, adding that it is the first time in Pakistan’s history that a separate annual development plan was given to South Punjab.
