Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, featuring Alia Bhatt, will have its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival.
According to media reports, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is the only selection of Indian film industry at the Berlinale as well as being one of four films selected for the Berlinale Special Gala.
Alia Bhatt has also reacted to the happy news and wrote in a Tweet, “So grateful to be part of a wonderful team that now celebrates its official selection to the #BerlinFilmFestival2022.”

The upcoming film is an adaptation of a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Alia Bhatt is portraying the role of Gangubai, a powerful madam who commanded immense respect in 1960s’ Kamathipura.
After 2019’s Gully Boy, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ will be the second film of Alia Bhatt to have a world premiere at the Berlinale.
