The US tech giant Google plans to open 50 smart schools in the federal capital of Pakistan. In addition, the company plans to expand its many initiatives, such as teacher workshops, Google Career Certificates for youth training, and the opening of a public Google Reference School.

According to the media reports, the Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training recently met with the Google for Education team and its local partner Tech Valley to discuss plans for Pakistan’s education system. 30,000 Google for Education IDs would be given to about 50 smart schools in Islamabad. These IDs will include AI-powered features including practice sets and a suite of digital tools for improved productivity and teamwork.

In the course of the meeting, several upcoming projects were discussed, such as teacher workshops on Google for Education tools, the creation of a public Google Reference School, the training of 2,000 young people in skills necessary for the workforce through Google Career Certificates, and the possibility of working with the Ministry of Federal Education in Pakistan to host an Edutech event.

The US tech giant emphasized on International Women’s Day in March that it is committed to empowering women even more. It believes that by providing women with the tools and resources they require, the nation can open the door to a future where everyone may live in greater equality, inclusiveness, and prosperity. In addition, Google saw the enormous potential and launched several initiatives to close these disparities and support greater equality and women’s empowerment in the workforce. The Google Career Certificates program, which debuted in Pakistan in 2022, is one such instance.

To help women achieve their goals and have more access to economic possibilities, at least 50% of the program scholarships were given to women only. To empower more students, the program provided 44,500 scholarships in 2023 and has promised to offer 45,000 more in 2024. With the help of its regional partners, the Google News Initiative (GNI) also trained aspiring journalists, gave women the chance to obtain experience in reporting and addressed newsroom accessibility.
