Govt calls in Rangers to maintain law and order situation in Punjab

The Federal Minister for Interior, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that Rangers have been called in to maintain law and order situation in Punjab under Article 147 for 60 days on the request of the provincial government.

According to media reports, Sheikh Rashi Ahmed has made these remarks while addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Wednesday.

On the occasion, the Interior Minister has said that Rangers will assist the provincial authorities to maintain law and order in Punjab. He said we cannot leave the people on the mercy of violent members of the banned TLP.

Sheikh Rashid further stated that the incumbent government is committed to its agreement with the TLP, but it cannot expel the French Ambassador as severing of diplomatic ties with the international community will augment problems for Pakistan at the global level.
