Gul Hassan Kalmatti, renowned historian, passes away in Karachi

The renowned historian of Sindh Gul Hassan Kalmatti passed away today (Wednesday, May 17th) at 65.

According to the media reports, the funeral prayer of the renowned historian and researcher was performed at Mullah Raizi Goth Malir, Karachi.

The family of the late historian said that he had been suffering from liver and kidney disorders for a long time.

According to a website by his own name, Gul Hassan Kalmatti has made a name for himself as an incredibly hard-working Researcher, Historian, Anthropologist, Social/Human Rights Activist, Writer, and progressive thinker. He has already published 10 well-researched books on various topics. He was born in Karachi, Sindh, and educated in Primary and Secondary Schools there. He passed his Matriculation from Murad Memon Secondary School. He has a B.A. from SM Arts College, a Master’s in Journalism, and a Diploma in local government from Karachi University. During college, he joined the Dr. Rasheed Group and then the BSO and the Sindh national movement afterward.

Kalmatti is the author of nine books of history and a travelogue one book translated by renowned writer and broadcaster Raza Ali Abdi’s book “Sher Darya” in Sindhi. He participates in programs and talks shows on a number of different TV channels and documentaries, he has written blogs for social media. He regularly contributed articles and features to newspapers and magazines. He is a founder member of the Indigenous Rights Alliance and a member of the Arts Council of Pakistan for Karachi. He has received many awards and honors. He traveled all around Sindh, Balochistan, Seraiki Waseeb, Punjab, and the Northern Areas of Pakistan. He also visited the coastal islands of Sindh and with Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari all those sites where Shah Abdul Lafif Bhittai had traveled. He also traveled to the surrounding of Karachi Kohistan with Anwar Pirzado, Badar Abro, Kalim Lashari, Ishtiaq Ansari, Dr. Rukhman Gul Palari, and Zulfiqar Kalhoro.
