Muhammad Qavi Khan passed away after protracted illness in Canada last night at 80.

According to the details, Muhammad Qavi Khan was born in Peshawar and started his career from Radio Pakistan Peshawar as a drama artist and later shifted to Lahore when PTV started its service from there in 1964.

Legend radio, TV and film actor Qavi Khan also performed in PTV Lahore’s first Drama “Nazrana” as hero and later performed many memorable roles in different plays telecast from PTV including “Andhera Ujala” “Din” and many more. He also acted in a number of films and established his unique style of acting on the silver screen.

Government of Pakistan awarded him with Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance in recognition of his meritorious services in the field of acting.

President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the legendary renowned artist. He said in a statement today that he has been deprived of a great artist. He said services rendered by deceased artist will never be forgotten. He also extended his condolence and sympathy with the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the artist. He termed the death of Qavi Khan an irreparable loss for the field of art.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran actor Qavi Khan.
