The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the commitment to continue supporting the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in enhancing intra-regional trade among ECO countries.
According to the media reports, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his views while talking to Economic Cooperation Organization Secretary General Khusrav Noziri, who called on him in Islamabad today (Thursday, July 25). He said that Pakistan would continue to fully support the ECO reforms agenda. He highlighted the significance of “ECO Vision 2025,” signed during the 2017 ECO Summit in Islamabad under then Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, as an important document for the ECO.

The outgoing Secretary General apprised Shehbaz Sharif about ECO’s initiatives and activities and his reform agenda to revitalize ECO during his tenure.
The Secretary General’s efforts to promote ECO as a regional forum for collaboration were much appreciated by the Prime Minister, who also wished him well in his future undertakings. He expressed his satisfaction that Khusrav Noziri is a Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan alumnus. Additionally, the prime minister sent his best wishes to President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.
Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif added that Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, a former Pakistani Foreign Secretary, will be the new Secretary General of the Economic Commission of Africa (ECO), something Pakistan is proud of. In his capacity as Secretary-General of the Economic and Social Council, the Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering support.
