Sania Nishtar – the senator of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – has officially resigned from her position in the upper house of Parliament.

According to the media reports, PTI Senator Sania Nishtar submitted her resignation to the Senate Secretariat and is effective immediately. She previously served as a special assistant to former Prime Minister Imran Khan during the PTI government. She is leaving to take up a role with an international organization based in Geneva.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sania Nishtar elected as a senator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2021 Senate elections. She is a qualified physician and was appointed CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in 2024.

Her previous positions included acting as Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety with the rank of federal minister, as well as chairing the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Ehsaas Program. In addition to her prior posts, Nishtar served in the interim federal cabinet in 2013, overseeing public health, education, and science projects.
