Saudi Arabia arrests more than 200 employees in latest anti-corruption purge

The government of Saudi Arabia has arrested 207 employees in the latest sweep by an anti-corruption body empowered by Kingdom Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to media reports, this was announced by the Saudi National Anti-Corruption Commission, known as Nazaha. The arrested employees were from across a dozen government ministries, however, the commission didn’t revealed the names and it was unclear when the arrests were made.

The Saudi National Anti-Corruption Commission has said that more than 460 people were investigated in this latest round. As a result, 207 Saudi citizens and residents were detained on allegations of corruption, abuse of authority and fraud, the commission added.

The commission further stated that those accused will be referred to prosecution. They said that the accused were hailed from the national guard and a range of ministries, including health, interior, defence and justice, among others.

It is to be mentioned here that the purge of National Anti-Corruption Commission of Saudi Arabia began in late 2017 which helped him consolidate power and netted $106 billion in assets of the country.
