SM Zafar passes away at 92 due to illness

SM Zafar – the senior renowned jurist of Pakistan – passed away due to illness at the age of 92.

According to the media reports, the family members have confirmed his death and said that he was ill for a long time. He was the father of renowned jurist Senator Ali Zafar.

The reports further stated that Senior Advocate and former Law Minister SM Zafar was born on December 6, 1930, in Rangoon, Burma. He was also the author of several books. Apart from this, he also wrote articles on national and international issues in domestic and foreign journals.

Zafar was the Law Minister of Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of 1965. On September 19, 1965, in the United Nations Security Council, he made the ceasefire resolution conditional on the resolution of the Kashmir issue. He also addressed the United Nations Human Rights Commission. He became Union Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs in Ayub Khan’s cabinet at the age of 35. He won several important national and international cases, he was also a member of the Senate from 2003 to 2012.

Apart from this, he also served as Chancellor of Hamdard University from 2004 to 2012. He was also honored with the Presidential Award Nishan Imtiaz in 2011.
