Vote of no-confidence against Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri to be held tomorrow

A no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri has been scheduled to take place tomorrow in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

According to a notification issued by the NA Secretariat, the voting on the no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri will take place on Saturday, while the election and oath-taking ceremony of the new speaker will also be held on the same day.

According to Dawn, in a bid to delay the election of the speaker on Wednesdat, the Deputy Speaker had used his special powers under the rules and had changed the date of the NA session from April 16 to April 22.

The official handout issued by the NA Secretariat said, “The National Assembly session, which was scheduled to be held at 4pm on April 16, will now be held at 3pm on April 22. The change in the schedule has been made by the acting speaker under Rule 49(2) of the Rules and Procedure for the Conduct of the Business in the National Assembly 2007″.
