The former captain and coach of Pakistan Cricket Team, Waqar Younis has issued an apology following a backlash on social media over his statement about wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz (prayers) during the match on Sunday

Waqar Younis has issued the apology, to the public for hurting their sentiments, in a statement on social networking website Twitter. He wrote, “In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean, which has hurt the sentiments of many.”

The former Pakistani coach further stated, “I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake. Sports unites people regardless of race, colour or religion.”

It is to be mentioned here that after Pakistan vanquished India on Sunday with a historic 10-wicket victory, the former fast bowler had said that what impressed him the most during the match was that Mohammad Rizwan stood in the middle of the ground and offered his prayers in front of several Hindus.
