Yousaf Raza Gillani defeats Hafeez Shaikh and elected as Senator from Islamabad

The former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani has defeated the Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh in Senate Elections and won the general seat.

According to Geo News, the Returning Officer has said that 340 votes were cast out of which Yousuf Raza Gilani got 169 votes while Hafeez Sheikh got 164 votes. He said that 7 votes were rejected.

Thus the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani defeated Hafeez Sheikh by five votes and was elected Senator from federal capital.

The women’s seat from Islamabad was contested between PML-N’s Farzana Kausar and PTI’s Fauzia Arshad. In this contest, PTI’s Fauzia Arshad got 174 votes and was elected senator.
