The Afghan National Institute of Health, Islamabad, said that the first case of polio in 2023 was reported in Afghanistan.
In a statement on Saturday, the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, said that a 4-year-old child was disabled by polio in Nangarhar, Afghanistan.

The Institute further stated that 1 to 2 cases of wild poliovirus have been reported in the world this year. They said that this year also in Pakistan, one child has become disabled due to poliovirus.
According to NIH, poliovirus has been confirmed in environmental samples from Peshawar, Hangu and South Waziristan.
