The former Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen has said that we had planned to buy cheap oil from Russia and it was not like throwing an atom bomb on the people by increasing Rs 60.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Friday, Shaukat Tareen has said that when Shehbaz Sharif was out of government, he used to say there would be a storm by increasing petrol prices. Now petrol and diesel prices have gone up by Rs 60 in a week, he said.

“We were forced to go to the IMF because of the 20 billion deficit, we fought for about eight months and only increased electricity prices by half,” he said.

The former Finance Minister has said that this imported government should reach out to Russia immediately. The United States would be angry if the government went to Russia, he said.

Shaukat Tareen has said that in February we fixed the prices of petrol and diesel and reduced the price of electricity by 5 rupees. He said instead of giving targeted subsidies, the government imposed the burden of oil prices on all citizens.
