The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has announced to stage a long march against the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on March 26.
According to media reports, the Chief of opposition alliance Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, while speaking to reporters after an hours-long meeting in Islamabad, that the opposition parties in PDM will contest the upcoming Senate elections jointly.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that caravans of long march will leave for Islamabad from across the country on March 26. He said that all the opposition parties will contest the Senate elections jointly.
“There will be a joint strategy for it and we will not compete against each other. We will field joint candidates,” he added.
The PDM Chief also rejected the proposed constitutional amendment presented by the PTI government for open balloting in the Senate polls and said that the opposition believes in a comprehensive package for electoral reforms.
The PDM meeting was attended by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Aftab Sherpao, Haider Khan Hoti and other representatives of opposition parties. The PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari also attended the meeting via video link.
