Polling of Senate underway, PM and others cast votes

The Senate Elections is underway at the parliament house and three provincial Assemblies including Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The polling which started at 9 am on thirty-seven vacant seats of the Senate is in progress and will continue till 5 pm.

According to media reports, Shafiq Arain was the first one to cast the vote followed by Faisal Vawda in Islamabad where the National Assembly hall has been declared the polling station.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan also cast his vote and interacted with the Members of National Assembly (MNAs) of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and allied parties during his visit to the Assembly hall.

The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri, Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, Minister for Communications Murad Saeed, Minister for Science Fawad Chaudhary and other prominent figures also cast their votes.

In the federal capital, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of PTI and former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani of Peoples Party (PPP) are vying for the general seat whilst for the women seat, Fauzia Arshad of PTI and Farzana Kausar of PML (N) are in the field.

Opposition leader in the National Assembly and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif has also cast his vote for the Senate election.
