Rs. 663.9 billion disbursed to farmers till last month: Tariq Bashir Cheema

The Federal Minister for National Food Security, Tariq Bashir Cheema has said that the government aims to improve the agriculture sector to bring it to par with international standards.

According to the details, the Minister for National Food Security made these remarks while addressing a media conference in Islamabad on Wednesday. He said considering the importance of the Agriculture sector for the country’s economy.

Tariq Bashir Cheema said that they are taking every possible measure to ensure the implementation of the Kisan Package announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He said despite the economic restraints and post flood challenges, we have achieved 91 percent of the wheat sowing target.

The Minister further stated that wheat sowing has been completed on 21 million acres across the country. He expressed hope that we will get a bumper crop of wheat this year. He said according to latest figures of State Bank of Pakistan loans worth 663.9 billion rupees were disbursed to farmers till the end of last month. This amount will increase to 800 billion rupees by the end of this month, he added.

“Under the mega Kisan Package, we ensured the availability of DAP fertilizer at the subsidized cost of 11250 rupees per bag,” he said, adding that in coordination with provinces, we are also taking actions against those who are misusing subsidy on the supply of Urea fertilizer.

The Federal Minister for National Food Security said disbursement of loans has also been started for the landless farmers. Five billion rupees will be distributed among the landless farmers.
