Sarim Burney – the Rights activist – has been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency in Karachi today (Wednesday, June 5) on the charges of Human Trafficking.
According to the media reports, Rights Activist Burney was taken into custody after he landed in Karachi from the United States. However, they said noting that he was arrested on the complaint of the US government.

The media reports said that Burney is accused of trafficking more than 25 children to the US and illegally getting the children adopted in the country. The allegations of smuggling 17 children to the US have come to light and an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
According to the organization’s website, the activist is the director of the Sarim Burney Welfare Trust International, a nonprofit trust that “represents the oppressed and less privileged population.” The website states that the trust has been pursuing social justice, and as part of this effort, a legal aid committee made up of qualified local and international attorneys has been established.
It additionally states that the trust offers “legal services for child abuse, harassment, sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, violation of human rights, workers compensation rights and other serious crimes.”
