Selena Gomez tears up at Cannes 2024

Selena Gomez – the 31-year-old actress-singer – couldn’t fight her tears back at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.

According to the media reports, Selena Gomez teared up on Saturday after the audience at France’s Grand Lumiére Theatre gave their longest standing ovation this year to her film Emilia Pérez. Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón were also seen crying during the nine-minute applause with Selena Gomez comforting the latter at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.

Director Jacques Audiard took the microphone to thank the audience in French, and the audience continued to cheer for a full minute. In the musical crime drama, Selena portrays Jessi, a mother of two and the wife of a drug lord. She also speaks Spanish in the movie and contributed several songs to the Emilia Pérez soundtrack.

Selena also posted several pictures of the event on her official Instagram account and wrote, “Thank you Cannes! I’m so honored to be a small part of something so special in Emilia Pérez -Jacques, thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. @zoesaldana @karsiagascon @edgarramirez25 and every single person apart of this film absolutely blew me away. Love you guys 🤍”

The official synopsis for Cannes reads, “Overqualified and undervalued, Rita is a lawyer at a large firm that is more interested in getting criminals off the hook than bringing them to justice. One day, she is given an unexpected way out, when cartel leader Manitas hires her to help him withdraw from his business and realize a plan he has been secretly preparing for years: to become the woman he has always dreamt of being.”
