FM calls for immediate steps to avert re-emergence of conflicts in Afghanistan

Pakistan is ready to extend cooperation to the United Nations and other organizations willing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said, adding that Pakistan believes there should be no preconditions for extending humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

According to media reports, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has made these remarks while talking to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Hissein Ibrahim Taha in Islamabad on Friday.

On the occasion, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has called for taking immediate steps to avert exodus of refugees and re-emergence of conflicts in Afghanistan. He said being founding member of the OIC, Pakistan is determined to uphold its values and objectives.

The Foreign Minister further stated that Pakistan is also looking forward to host the 48th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in March next year. He said hosting the OIC meetings show the seriousness of Pakistan to carry forward the goals of Muslim Ummah.

He also emphasized the need for greater cooperation amongst the OIC members in the areas of science and economy. He said Pakistan commends OIC’s consistent support for the oppressed people of Kashmir.

While talking about the Indian atrocities in Kashmir, he said Pakistan desires resolution of Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

“The international community should take steps and hold accountable those committing blatant human rights violations in the occupied territory,” he added.
