Government will ensure provision of power and energy to establishment of Special Economic Zones under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project, the Federal Minister for Power Division Omar Ayub Khan has said, adding that it would boost economic activities along with creation of thousands of new jobs in the country.
According to media reports, the Power Minister has made these remarks while talking to Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong in Islamabad on Monday.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of power projects under CPEC and agreed to continue the cooperation in field of energy in mutual interest of both countries.
Omar Ayub Kha has apprised the Chinese Ambassador about the initiatives by the current government to curb the distribution and transmission losses in the power sector. The focus of our government is to lower the cost of power generation by increasing Renewable Energy, he said.
The Chinese envoy Nong Rong has appreciated the Pakistani government’s commitment to reform the energy sector. He said that China is keen to work with Pakistan in field of energy including power projects under CPEC.
The Ambassador has thanked and appreciated the efforts of the Government of Pakistan and Ministry of Energy to expedite the progress of power projects under CPEC.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Power Tabish Gouhar, Chairman CPEC Authority Gen. (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa and Secretary Power Ali Raza Bhutta were also present at the meeting.
