India’s Covid19 death toll reaches 100,000

The total number of fatalities from the novel Covid19 pandemic has surpassed 100,000 in India after battling the lethal outbreak for seven months, becoming the third nation to cross the six-digit figure after the United States and Brazil.

According to the Indian Health Ministry, the total death toll sat at 100,842 on Saturday morning, on top of nearly 6.5 million infections.

Inida has now the highest rate of daily new infections in the world, most recently reporting 79,476 cases in the space of a single day.

According to Russia Today (RT) report, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has moved to lift the restrictions, that has been imposed in 36 states and territories in March, which inflicted economic devastation on India’s vast population of 1.3 billion.

The Indian government began scaling back the containment measures in May, and just this week cinemas have been allowed to reopen at 50 percent capacity.
