International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2023 being observed today

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2023 is being observed around the globe including Pakistan today (Monday, June 26).

According to the media reports, International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed to remind people that human torture is unacceptable and a crime. The United Nations in 1997 declared June 26 as the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

In a message on the occasion of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture 2023, the Secretary-General of the United States, António Guterres said torturers must never be allowed to get away with their crimes, and systems that enable torture should be dismantled or transformed.”
