Population is increasing, we should be improving maternal health: President

President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that the Prime Minister Imran Khan has been very concerned that health facilities should be available for everybody. He said that the government is committed to improve health facilities across the country.

According to media reports, the President has expressed these views while speaking at National Dissemination Webinar on Pakistan Maternal Mortality Survey via video link on Thursday.

The President further stated that as population size is increasing, we should be improving maternal health, reducing maternal mortality and ensuring good nutrition not only for mother but also for children.

Dr Arif Alvi has said that the primary importance of health starting in every home is the health of the mother and child. He said gap in pregnancies is important for maternal health.

He emphasized on communication about prevention, good habits at home, healthy life and nutrition for better health.

“Pakistan has a vast coverage of Lady Health Workers Program. Lady Health Workers are primary source of information to prevent communicable diseases,” he added.

President Alvi also expressed confidence that the health systems generated during COVID-19 will go a long way to achieve health sustainable development goals.
