Shehbaz Sharif elected as 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan

The President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

According to media reports, the voting for the leader of the house was held in the National Assembly on Monday. The Chairman Senate Ayaz Sadiq was the Presiding Officer.

Announcing the results, Presiding Officer Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif secured 174 votes. No vote was polled in favor of Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Earlier, taking the floor, Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced to boycott the election to the leader of the house. He said the decision to this effect was taken in a party meeting chaired by Chairman Imran Khan. On behalf of the PTI members, he also announced resignations from the National Assembly.
