The Pakistani singer and GRAMMY award winner Arooj Aftab has been decorated with the prestigious President’s Pride of Performance award by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan during a ceremony held in connection with Independence Day in Washington DC.

According to the media reports, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan lauded Singer Arooj Aftab during the ceremony held in connection with Independence Day in Washington DC and her achievements, especially in bringing the people of Pakistan and the US closer to each other with the power of music. He said that diplomacy and interstate relations were all about perceptions and Urooj Aftab has helped change the perceptions about Pakistan.

On this occasion, Arooj Aftab thanked Ambassador Masood Khan and the government of Pakistan for the award, Urooj Aftab said that it was a good moment to acknowledge that literature, poetry, and music have been an integral part of our identity as Pakistanis. She termed the conferment of the award upon her as a matter of pride and a source of inspiration for other female artists of the country and said that it was a bright day for Pakistani female musicians to have received the award. She also thanked and paid tribute to legendary female Pakistani singers, from Mukhtar Begum to Abida Parveen. She thanked her parents for their continued support of her.

It is pertinent to mention here that Arooj Aftab is an internationally recognized Pakistani American vocalist, music composer, and producer in the United States. She is the first Pakistani woman to ever win a GRAMMY award.
