US acknowledges Pakistan's efforts to check human, drug trafficking

The US State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pakistan, Lesslie C. Vaguerie has said that the United States has acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan to check human and drug trafficking.

According to media reports, the US State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary has made these remarks while talking to Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in Islamabad on Thursday.

On the occasion, the Interior Minister has said that the incumbent government has enforced two new laws to stop human trafficking. He expressed hope that new laws will prove to be helpful in eliminating human trafficking.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed further stated that fencing on Afghan border will prove to be effective in curbing human trafficking. He said Pakistan arrested two thousand people involved in human trafficking.

“Federal and Sindh governments have filed appeals against acquittal of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and proceedings are underway,” he said, adding that the final decision will be made in the light of Supreme Court’s decision.
