Alvi calls for enhancing partnerships with World Health Organization to overcome health challenges in Pakistan

Dr. Arif Alvi – the President of Pakistan – has called for further enhancing the partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to overcome various health challenges being faced by the country.

According to the media reports, President Dr. Arif Alvi made these remarks while talking to outgoing Country WHO Director Dr. Palitha Mahipala, who called on him, in Islamabad today (Thursday, November 30).

During the meeting, Dr. Arif Alvi appreciated the role of the World Health Organization in strengthening Pakistan’s primary healthcare system, besides providing support to various government initiatives. He emphasized the need to create awareness about the importance of mental health and early counseling at the household level. He said concerted efforts are needed to ensure the rights of the people with disability. He also appreciated the role and commitment of Dr. Palitha Mahipala to strengthening the health sector of Pakistan and wished him success in his future endeavors.

In his remarks, Country WHO Director Dr. Palitha Mahipala lauded the commendable role played by the President and the First Lady in raising awareness about various health issues, including Breast Cancer, Mental Health, and the rights of Persons with Disabilities.
