Mushaal Hussein says govt preparing national policy on ending violence against women

Mushaal Hussein Mullick – the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment – has said that the government is preparing a national policy on ending violence against women.

According to the media reports, Mushaal Hussein Mullick expressed her views while addressing an event today (Wednesday, November 29). She said zero draft has been prepared and finalization is in progress with technical support of the UN Women.

The Special Assistant further stated that the federal and provincial governments have set up helplines to check gender-based violence. Women protection and rehabilitation centers are working at the federal, provincial, and district levels, providing early response to victims of violence as well as medical, legal, and psychological support. She emphasized the empowerment of women to bring positive change in society.

“Important legislation has been done to protect and empower women,” the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Human Rights and Women Empowerment said adding that the legislation includes the Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Act, Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, Anti Rape Investigation and Trial Act, and Protection against harassment of women at workplace.
