Astronaut Namira Salim ready to hoist Pakistan’s flag in space


Dubai-based Pakistani Astronaut Namira Salim will start her space mission on October 5. It is a great achievement for Pakistan that the country’s first woman astronaut is preparing for a historic space journey.

According to the media reports, Astronaut Namira Salim is determined to fly Pakistan’s flag in space. Space tourism company Virgin Galactic Holdings has announced that its Galactic 04 flight window will begin its journey next month.

The Dubai-based Pakistani Astronaut has been nominated for this space flight by Virgin Galactic founder astronaut Richard Branson. She has achieved the position of astronaut number 6.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government of Pakistan officially recognized Namira as the country’s first astronaut in 2006. She also served as an honorary tourism ambassador for Pakistan in 2007. She holds the distinction of being the first Pakistani woman to reach the North Pole in April 2007. She also hoisted Pakistan’s flag at the North Pole in April 2007 and at the South Pole in January 2008.

The reports further stated that Namira had the honor of being the first Asian and the first Pakistani woman to skydive on Mount Everest in 2008. She was also awarded the Medal of Distinction in 2011.

Murtaza Solangi – the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting – has said that Namira Salim’s upcoming journey to space is a sign of Pakistan’s growing presence in space exploration and a great achievement for the nation. He congratulated Namira on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, and the people for starting the space journey and also expressed good wishes for her success.

The Information Minister has said that Namira is a role model for all women, her journey is a symbol of Pakistan’s growing presence in space research which is a major achievement for the nation.
