Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has been elected as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and he was nominated by Imran Khan to contest for the top slot.

According to the media reports, the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Niazullah Niazi announced the results today (Saturday, December 2). He said that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was elected unopposed following the intra-party election held today.

PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner Niazullah Niazi said Umar Ayub Khan has been elected PTI’s central general secretary while Ali Amin Gandapur and Dr Yasmin Rashid were chosen as the party’s provincial presidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, respectively.

The decision was made following the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) recommendations, and the party held intra-party elections today. The central polling station has been established in Peshawar’s Rano Garhi, near the Motorway Toll Plaza, where Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Presiding Officer Ali Zaman has arrived.

These elections are extremely important in the country’s current political climate because the party’s Chairman Imran Khan has decided to hand over the chairmanship to one of his legal advisors, Barrister Gohar Khan, who will hold the party reins until Imran Khan’s release from prison.

PTI member and senior lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar revealed Gohar’s name as the party’s chair earlier this week, stressing that his position is temporary and that Khan will return as chairman if his disqualification in the wake of the Toshakhana case is reversed.

Ali Amin Gandapur, a PTI leader, is standing for the party’s KP presidency, while former provincial minister Atif Khan is running for Peshawar area president. Ali Asghar is vying for the position of provincial general secretary.
