CDA reveals existence of 600 illegal societies in Rawalpindi, Islamabad

Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Noor ul Amin Mengal revealed the presence of more than 600 illegal housing societies in the capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to the media reports, CDA Chairman Noor ul Amin Mengal made a major revelation about illegal societies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change today (Wednesday, July 12).

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority told the Standing Committee that there are more than 600 illegal housing societies in the Twin Cities. He further said that there are 150 illegal housing societies in Islamabad, 318 in Rawalpindi, while there are around 100 illegal housing societies in Fateh Jang.

The Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change inquired about what CDA is doing against illegal societies. He further said that CDA should release the list of illegal societies and the public should be informed about illegal societies through advertisement.

The members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change said that illegal housing societies are continuing their activities, causing irreparable damage to the environment. They asked for proper action against the illegal societies.

Environmental Protection Agency (APA) Pakistan Director General (DG) Farzana Altaf has said that environmental reports have been requested from the housing societies. She said that the NOC of the legal societies that do not meet the environmental standards will be canceled within a week.
