Chinese FM Wang Yi arrives in Kabul on unannounced visit

The Foreign Minister and State Councilor of China, Wang Yi has arrived in Kabul on Thursday, the the Afghan state-run Bakhtar News Agency has confirmed the news.

According to the Afghan state-run Bakhtar News Agency, the Chinese FM arrived a week before Beijing hosts a meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbors to see how they can help the country following its takeover by the hard-line Islamist group.

In a tweet, a top Taliban government official, Ahmad Yasir has said that the Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi has arrived in Kabul for talks with Islamic Emirate leaders.

The Chinese FM Wang Yi has arrived in Kabul from Islamabad where he attended a two-day meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

It is to be mentioned here that China and Afghanistan shares a rugged 76-kilometer sliver of a border and China has been involved in the Afghan peace process after the US withdrew most of its troops in 2014. The Chinese FM Wang Yi has arrived for the first time in Kabul but the Taliban officials have also paid several visits to China.
