Cricketer Zaman Khan replaced fast bowler Naseem Shah for the remainder of the Asia Cup 2023 for medical reasons.

This was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a press release today (Wednesday, September 13). PCB said that fast bowler Naseem Shah had injured his right shoulder in this week’s match against India and continued to be monitored by the Pakistan team’s medical panel that was taking all necessary precautions keeping in mind the upcoming one-day international World Cup.

The Cricket Board further stated that Cricketer Zaman Khan joined the Pakistani team earlier today and would train with the squad in the evening at the R Premadasa Stadium.

The PCB provided an update on Haris Rauf, who did not bowl on the reserve day of the match against India as a precautionary measure, saying he “continues to recover well” after feeling discomfort in his right side on the first day of the match.

The Doctor of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Sohail Saleem said that these two fast bowlers are our assets, and the team’s medical panel will provide them with the best possible care ahead of the all-important World Cup.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PCB called Khan up alongside Shahnawaz Dahani a day earlier after Shah and Rauf picked minor niggles. The PCB stated that it was “only a precautionary measure in light of the players’ fitness and well-being ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next month.”
