The President of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Gabriela Cuevas Barron has urged governments and world parliaments to evolve a joint strategy to overcome coronavirus pandemic.
According to media reports, on the invitation of Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Gabriela Cuevas Barron along with her two-member delegation has arrived in Islamabad on a five-day visit to Pakistan.
A detailed briefing was given to the IPU President and her two-member delegation at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services Islamabad on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Gabriela has said that it is prime responsibility of the parliament to defend human rights and democracy.
The Chairman Senate on the occasion appreciated the steps taken by IPU for the cause of democracy.
Sadiq Sanjrani has said that the eradication of inequality is part of IPU’s agenda and joint efforts are needed for this purpose.
