Ebrahim Raisi – the President of Iran – has accused regional rival Saudi Arabia of betraying the Palestinians by seeking to normalize relations and ties with Israel.

According to the media reports, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made these remarks regarding Saudi Arabia and Israel ties during a news conference as he attended the UN General Assembly.

On this occasion, the President of Iran said that the initiation of a relationship between the Zionist regime and any country in the region, if it is with the aim to bring security for the Zionist regime, will certainly not do so. A partnership between regional countries and the Zionist state, we feel, would be a knife in the back of the Palestinian people and their resistance, he said.

Saudi Arabia and Israel have bonded in part because of their common opposition to Iran’s religious regime, though Riyadh has sought to reduce tensions with Tehran through negotiations facilitated by China. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, has stated that normalization discussions with Israel are progressing under US mediation.
