Omar Abdullah has officially taken the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today (Wednesday, October 16).
According to the media reports, the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir of the leader of the National Conference Omar Abdullah marks the formation of the region’s first government since the revocation of its special status.

The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, alongside eight other lawmakers from Abdullah’s party. After choosing to abstain from governing, the Congress party—which had previously sided with Abdullah’s National Conference—did not score well in the most recent elections. The Congress turned down the offer of a ministerial post anyway.
The INDIA alliance’s prominent leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, K. Kanimozhi of the DMK, and Supriya Sule, attended the swearing-in event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. This event marks a watershed point in Jammu and Kashmir’s political scene, as it begins a new chapter under Abdullah’s leadership.
