Pakistan, Tajikistan agree to reactivate joint working groups to promote economic, trade ties

A delegation of Pakistan led by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held talks with the delegation of Tajikistan led by Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

According to media reports, both the countries have have agreed to further promote their economic and trade relations.

After the meeting, Shah Mahmood Qureshi along with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin addressed a joint news conference.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister has said that both the sides have agreed to reactivate joint working groups to promote cooperation in different fields. He said that there are lot of opportunities for enhancing bilateral trade and investments between the two countries.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that we need to encourage our entrepreneurs and businessmen to visit each other and explore the opportunities of cooperation. Pakistan will extend maximum facilitation to the businessmen from Tajikistan, he added.

The Foreign Minister has also expressed satisfaction over the defense cooperation and said that Pakistan is ready to further assist Tajikistan to build its military capabilities.

“We welcome more officers from Tajikistan into the military institutions and foreign service academy of Pakistan,” Qureshi said.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan and Tajikistan have significantly enhanced their relations and this trajectory must be maintained. He expressed commitment to CASA 1000 project saying Pakistan desires its timely completion. He said the project will benefit the region.

The Foreign Minister also extended an invitation to the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and the Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan.

He also shared the meeting pictures on his Twitter account and wrote, “Thank you FM #SirojiddinMuhriddin for a great meeting discussing spectrum of bilateral ties. Together we agreed to tap into potential of those areas, as yet unexplored, to engage more meaningfully, specifically across trade, tourism and people to people engagement.”
