Police official, escorting polio workers, shot dead by unidentified persons in Karak

A police officer escorting a team of polio health workers has embraced martyrdom after unknown gunmen opened fire on them in Takht-e-Nasrati area of Karak Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to media reports, the authorities have said that the police officer was providing security to a team of polio health workers on Tuesday. The polio health workers remained unharmed.

The district police have cordoned off the area and started search operation to arrest the culprits.

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Karak, Irfanullah has said that a search operation had been launched in the area to catch the culprits. He said that the polio vaccination drive had not been halted after the incident.

The Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Sanaullah Abbasi also took notice of the incident. He said that the killers will be caught soon.

Sanaullah Abbasi further stated that the security was being provided to polio workers and the martyrdom of our police officer is proof that security is being provided. He said that there are some people who were against polio vaccination but they would be rooted out soon.

It is to be mentioned here that a five-day polio vaccination campaign has been started yesterday across the country and over 40 million children under the age of five will be vaccinated.
