Russia has taken a major step towards formally recognizing the Taliban government in Afghanistan.
According to media reports, Russia has recignized the Taliban diplomat Jamal Garwal as Afghanistan’s charge d’affaires in Moscow.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the move is a step towards the full restoration of bilateral relations between both the countries.
The development comes against the backdrop of a global crackdown on Russian envoys in the aftermath of the Bucha massacre.
