The former Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi passed away today (Monday, June 12) at the age of 86.

According to the media reports, Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian Prime Minister, was a billionaire businessman who built the largest media company in his country before changing the political landscape.

In a statement, the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Salvini called the former Prime Minister “a great man and a great Italian.”

The Defense Minister of Italy, Guido Croceto wrote on the micro-blogging website Twitter that Silvio Berlusconi’s death was like the end of an era.

Silvio Berlusconi, who was former Prime Minister of Italy from July 1994 to 1995, 2001 to 2006, and 2008 to 2011, had been suffering from leukemia before his death and had recently developed a lung infection.

His Forza Italia party is part of the right-wing coalition of current Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, although he had no role in government himself, his death is still feared to destabilize Italian politics in the months to come.
