Sindh High Court orders to ban TikTok till July 8

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the suspension of popular video-sharing application TikTok across Pakistan, nearly three months after the country had lifted a ban imposed on it.

According to media reports, the SHC on Monday ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to ban TikTok across the country until July 8. The court has issued the order on a petition filed by a citizen aggrieved by the “immorality and obscenity” spread by content on the video-sharing application.

In its order, the Sindh High Court has stated that the application had not abided by “the constant undertakings and assurances” given by it before various courts and the PTA to block accounts spreading vulgarity.

SHC issued a notice to the attorney general of Pakistan and directed him to follow the orders and get the app banned.

During the hearing, the lawyer of the petitioner has said that Peshawar High Court had earlier banned TikTok as some videos uploaded on the platform are “immoral and against the teachings of Islam.”

He said his client had approached PTA before moving the court, however, the PTA did not do anything in this regard.
