Amir Farzand Khan, PTI Leader, arrested in May 9 riots case

Amir Farzand Khan – the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) belonging to Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – has been arrested in connection with the May 9 riots case.

According to the media reports, another PTI Leader MPA Amir Farzand Khan has been arrested in connection with the May 9 riots case today (Thursday, August 17). He was arrested by police when he was leaving his office in Mardan. He came to the Anti-Corruption office to appear in the case. However, he will be presented before a local court tomorrow.

It is pertinent to mention here that Amir Farzand is a Pakistani politician who served in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 2018 until January 2023. In the 2018 Pakistani general election, he was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from Constituency PK-51 (Mardan-IV).

Previously, Punjab police reported that 2138 people had been arrested in five major cities in connection with the May 9 violence. According to police records, 645 individuals were detained in 14 terrorism cases from Lahore, including 93 nominated suspects in the May 9 violence. Police apprehended 173 suspects in two instances in Gujranwala, 438 in 14 terrorism cases in Rawalpindi, and 670 in nine terrorism cases in Sargodha.
